The law on child maintenance changed from 12 April 2010. Because of this, the way child maintenance is handled has changed for parents with care who are on benefits. The change that will affect you is as follows:

| Parents with care were able to keep up to £20 a week of any child maintenance paid before it affected the amount of benefit they received. | Parents with care can keep all child maintenance paid and it does not affect their benefits. |
